The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) teamed up to enhance school teachers’ understanding of space science technology application for classroom instruction in a two-day space education seminar-workshop at Hotel Stotsenberg in Clark, Pampanga last February 16-17.

With the theme, “Exploring Space Science in the Classroom,” the seminar-workshop included interactive microgravity and vacuum experiments and activities using rovers and communication to demonstrate time delay.

The participants recreated Canadian Robot Arm on the International Space Station (ISS) through innovative materials like paper cups and strings.

Through the use of Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) open-source software, the participants manipulated and visualized actual satellite images of the Earth’s appearance from the outer space for remote sensing various features of the Earth like vegetation, land use, contamination of bodies of water, and atmospheric condition.

The Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus (PSHS-CLC) hosted the event.
