The efforts in forwarding women’s rights and women empowerment can be traced back from the different events and movements of women organizations and activities in history across different countries around the world. One of these successful efforts were that of the Socialist Women’s International who demanded March 8 to be the International Women’s Day (IWD) to recognize workingwomen around the world. It is due to such history of women that IWD was officially recognized by the United Nations to celebrate women’s contributions to all societies.

In the Philippines, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 224, 227 and Republic Act No. 6469, these provided the observation of Women’s Week every first week of March and March 8 as National Women’s Day and the recognition of “Women’s Role in History” for the month of March.

Thus, in consonance with the celebration of National Women’s Month, with the theme, “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”, the Gender and Development Committee of Philippine Science High-School Central Luzon Campus organized activities that will enlighten and empower the community towards a hand-in-hand effort in recognizing women’s rights and women empowerment.

PISAY-CLC Juana Know shall fulfill the promotion of National Women’s Month through public awareness particularly employing online advoc
acy.
With the celebration’s launching on March 2, students and teachers of PSHS-CLC shall be encouraged to post, using their facebook accounts, most interesting facts about Filipinas highlighting women’s rights and empowerment. These posts will be recognized by using #PSHSCLCJuanaKnow.

With the title, Juana, Ikaw Na: Recognizing Filipinas’ Active Role in Decision-making Process, the faculty and staff of PSHS-CLC will also have a seminar-workshop to inform and equip the members of the institution about the rights and the active role of women towards leadership, management and decision-making process.

Through these activities, the PSHS-CLC recognizes its role as an institution that has a significant role towards advocating and providing the path towards women empowerment.
