GOING GLOBAL. (L-R) John Matthew C. Marquez and Maria Janine L. Juachon receive their certificates of recognition from Joe Ritchie, INYT copy editor and contest judge, and Helena Phua, INYT executive vice president for Asia Pacific, last February 27 in Hong Kong.

The Central Scholar Editor-in-chief John Matthew C. Marquez and Associate Editor Maria Janine L. Juachon landed as finalists in the 2015  International New York Times (INYT) writing contest on global education.

Juachon and Marquez attended the award ceremony at the INYT Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong on February 27.

Approximately 300 entries from 20 countries across Asia Pacific joined the 2015 INYT.

They co-authored the article entitled “One, Two, Tree” that stresses the importance of investing on environmental education to raise global awareness on issues, understanding the different global perspectives, and building a sustainable future can help save our environment.

“Global education will serve as the bridge between our past and our future, and in the face of environmental issues, we must remember that the earth does not belong to us; rather, we belong to the earth. Hence we must do whatever it takes to take care of our only home. We only have one past, one future, and one earth, so let our choices count for those who cannot,” Juachon and Marquez wrote in the entry they co-authored.

Campus Director Lilia T. Habacon and Curriculum and Instruction Services Division (CISD) Chief Aries N. Oliveros who is also the school paper adviser of The Central Scholar accompanied Marquez and Juachon.
