 Six fourth year scholars of the Philippine Science High School-Central Luzon Campus (PSHS-CLC) in Clark, Pampanga joined a research fair and an exchange program in Japan last August 3-9.

The events aimed to motivate high school students to conduct research in science, and technology and develop their interest in and passion for innovation.

Robert Alexander Malig, Jr., Giann Frances Munar, and Vince Christian Villanueva, together with PSHS-CLC Campus Director Lilia T. Habacon, presented their research entitled Comparative analysis of water quality of Abacan (Pampanga, Philippines) and Alinsaog  (Zambales, Philippines) Rivers in the Super Science High (SSH) School Student Fair 2014 in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan last August 6-7.

Organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and Japan Science and Technology Agency, SSH School Student Fair 2014 was participated in by around 650 delegates from Japan, China, United States, Germany, India, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Tom John Bontoyan, Joshua Miguel Danac, Danielle Marie Grino, accompanied by Karizz Anne L. Morante, PSHS-CLC Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Technology Department Head, participated in the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science 2014 also known as the Sakura Exchange Program in Science 2014 (SSP) in Tokyo, Japan last August 3-9

 

A total of 132 participants from Malaysia, Mongolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines took part in the SSP 2014.

Nobel Laureate in Physics in 2008 Professor Toshihide Maskawa, first Japanese astronaut Dr. Mamoru Mohri, and former Minister of Education Professor Akito Arima delivered their lecture to inspire the participants and deepen the quality of the exchange program.

Participants visited the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), the Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), the Science Square Tsukuba and Geological Museum, Keio University, and the Tsukuba University.

Scholars from PSHS Main, Bicol Region, and Southern Mindanao campuses also joined the said research fair and exchange program.
